The idea of “clearing” is the translation of the existing landscape setting of an open space in the wood into a smaller scale. The house itself is an open space in the wooded environment, or more precisely a space between the wood outside and a clearing in the centre.

The design of the plan is the result of the play of just two lines. The continuous interaction between the interior and exterior completely translucent facades creates a simple floor plan which has no angles. The generated space is both continuous and also changing at every turn.

“clearing” can be a domicil for two or three people who want to live in the town but within the nature. “clearing” can be a resort for second homers as well as a place for living and working.

In consideration of the theme of the architectural competition “eenvood / simplicity” “clearing” simply consists of a few elements: one floor, one open room, one type of facade, one slab of wood as floor and one as roof, only a few details for construction.

On the other hand “clearing” creates complexity and multiplicity: an unpredictable space, multifarious relationships between inside and outside and the plan as a multifunctional versatile “platform” for the complexity of contemporary living.
